Dopamine Fix

Winsome View Animal Farm is an educational farm founded in 2012 by Cheryl Gouws in memory of her late mother, Winsome, who inspired the name and animal-loving culture. Situated in Summerveld, Hillcrest, it sits on 5.2 acres of scenic landscape boasting a variety of farm animals, ranging from chickens, ducks, guinea pigs, guinea fowl, horses, ponies, tortoises, goats, sheep, donkeys and pigs, all of which kids come with their families and schools to interact with, feed and have pony rides. The staff are well-trained in animal handling and ensure visitors have an unforgettable experience that makes them want to come back again.

Gamers, Assemble

The Batcave Tabletop Gaming is a family-friendly destination where everyone is welcome. They offer a wide selection of board and card games, Tabletop Wargaming such as Warhammer, gaming accessories and TCGs, namely Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh! They also have a long-standing community which comes together to share their love of games and geek culture. Amongst game nights, tournaments, special events and painting days, The Batcave Tabletop Gaming is a community hub which everyone can enjoy. Whether you are a seasoned gamer, just starting, or want to try something different, The Batcave is for you.

Wild at Heart

Rocking Horse Equestrian Centre specialises in beginner riders of all ages, creating a safe, supportive and confidence-building environment where both children and adults can develop a genuine love for horses. Their qualified instructors are passionate about teaching correct foundations with patience, kindness, and encouragement. They are proud to have carefully selected horses and ponies that are well-suited for riding, allowing riders to learn safely while building confidence and trust. More than just riding lessons, their aim is to nurture a lifelong connection with horses, helping every rider grow in confidence, knowledge, responsibility and joy both in and out of the saddle.

Children are endlessly fascinated by animals, and PheZulu Safari Park offers the chance to see giraffe, zebra, antelope and other wildlife up close. Families can stroll the trails, enjoy the wide-open lawns and discover the property’s gardens and outdoor spaces while soaking up the fresh air. Parents can relax over coffee or a bite to eat at The Harvest deli while youngsters enjoy the space to play and explore. Just minutes from central Hillcrest, Camp Orchards feels a world away from the bustle of everyday life, making it an ideal school holiday outing for the whole family.

Market Day Magic

Children can enjoy face painting, train rides, jungle gyms, merry-go-rounds and open spaces to explore at Shongweni Farmers Market on weekends, whilst parents browse local produce, crafts and delicious treats. With live music, a relaxed country atmosphere and plenty of family-friendly entertainment, it has become one of the Upper Highway’s most popular weekend outings and an easy choice for a school holiday adventure.
